| Ed Wall is the academic leader for landscape architecture and urbanism at the University of Greenwich, UK, and has a wide influence in the field of landscape architecture research and education. In this exclusive interview, Ed expounds his core ideas on research, practice and landscape architecture teaching that give emphasis to landscape justice. In terms of research, he is interested in the publicness of landscapes and cities, especially the way that sites of publicness are informed by practices of planning, design, use and maintenance. For Ed, design should not only determine the physical environment and physical dimensions of the city, but also be understood and inform processes of landscapes. In landscape architecture teaching, University of Greenwich students are studying design methods that consider the open-ended processes and incompleteness of landscapes. Students are also required to keep in mind their professional commitment to environmental and social justice. |
