Abstract:
The main responsibility of contemporary zoos is to devote themselves to species conservation and to promote the environmentally friendly behavior of tourists. In addition to meeting basic animal welfare, the immersive exhibit design should better help the zoos achieve this responsibility. Aiming at the blind spots of zoo designers on the mechanism of pro-environmental behavior of the public, this research introduces the powerful auxiliary tool of conservation psychology. Through literature reviews on conservation psychology for zoo visitors, this article provides the following suggestions for the planning and design of zoo immersive exhibit: design exhibition spaces that are friendly to animal behavior, preserve more natural areas in the zoo, reconsider the distribution of educational spaces, and use clear and diverse information communication methods. This article discusses contemporary zoo planning and design from the perspective of tourists’ psychology and breaks through the exploration of zoo design from the perspective of enrichment.
